Something About 10 Free Gardening Products
Something About 10 Free Gardening Products
One of the pleasurable spin-offs in organic gardening is finding alternative ways of coming up with the same, if not better, end result….. Household throwaways can be valuable to the alternate enthusiast. Here are ten recyclable ideas to make gardening a little less hard on the pocket!
Wayet lighting co., ltd, wholesales LED grow lights, LED Aquarium Lamp, worldwide distribution. Pls do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, email: info@wayet-lighting.com
1. Hedge clippings: Instead of burning or direct composting, beg, borrow or even buy, if the quantity justifies the price, an electric garden muncher. Branches up to an inch in diameter are posted into a slot and the machine munches them up into small chips. Spread these chips thickly around shrubs or fruit trees to help keep moisture in, and control the temperature of the soil.
2. Food Waste: All food waste must be composted. Composting is becoming quite an art form, and special composting bins can be bought, or very simply made. There are many different theories and each gardener will find his or her preferred way. Keeping the compost fairly warm is the overall key to a good result. Or, if you’re in no hurry, simply keep adding to a heap, and dig out the bottom when required. Sieve before using and the compost will be ready for planting small plants and even seeds.

3. Old carpets, large damaged cardboard boxes: and similar materials can be laid over the vegetable plot in autumn to help prevent those early spring weeds appearing. Spread over a whole patch and weigh down with stones or logs. Lift off on a sunny day in early spring a few days before digging.
4. Paint trays: Keep old roller painting trays and similar containers for seed trays. Punch a few holes in the bottom for drainage. Add a little fine gravel before filling with seed compost. Seed trays shouldn’t be deeper than 15cm.
5. Yoghurt pots: All plastic yoghurt or dessert pots can be washed and saved for re-potting seedlings. Make a hole in the bottom of each and add a little fine gravel before filling with compost or soil..
6. Glass jars: Glass jars with sealable lids are excellent for storing seeds, beans and peas for planting next year. (Safe from mice as well) After washing the jars, dry in the oven to remove all traces of moisture before storing your seeds. Collect dark glass jars, or wrap paper round clear jars to prevent seeds being damaged by light.
7. Ice Lolly sticks: Make perfect row markers in your seed trays or greenhouse beds. The wooden ones won’t last for ever but you can at least write on them with pen, pencil or crayons!
8. Wire coat hangers: Make mini-cloches with discarded or broken wire coat hangers. Pull into a square shape. Place the hook in the soil and push down gently until the natural bend in the wire rests on top of the soil. Place another a short distance away in your seed bed to create two ends of a cloche. Now throw over a sheet of plastic and hold down with logs or stones. Note: this will work only when creating very small cloches.
9. Clear plastic: Keep any clear plastic containers that could be placed upside down over a plant. Cut a mineral water bottle in half to make two handy individual cloches. Large sheets of clear plastic from packaged household items are fine for throwing over mini coat hanger cloches.
10. Aluminum bottle tops: Keep aluminum tops from milk or juice bottles, and also colored foil around beer or wine bottles. Thread together to make a bird scarer. Simply thread with thick cotton and hang on your fruit bushes before the birds find the new fruits.
Look out for other tools for the garden from kitchen throwaways such as:
–old kitchen spoons and forks for transplanting tiny plants in the greenhouse.
–Leaky buckets for harvesting small quantities of potatoes, carrots etc;
–light wooden boxes for harvesting salads through the summer, and transporting pots etc;
–Keep an eye on that rubbish bag and turn today’s throwaways into tomorrow’s tools!

Different classifications of trees
Different classifications of trees
Article by Gen Wright
When kids are told to draw a tree, it is very common that they would create a big circle made out of curls colored in green for the head of the plant. Aside from that they would also draw a simple big trunk colored in brown that would support the whole tree. However, trees are not just a single form or shape. What’s interesting about these woody plants is that there is wide array of trees all over the world. They vary in the size and shape of the leaves, in height, color, and a lot more. There are several tree classifications and each has is own features that set it apart from the other classes of trees.
The first class is what they call the Family. This is the kind of trees that has a big resemblance with each other in terms of appearance and its character. One of the most popular examples of the family is the Aceraceae. This is also known as the Maple family. There are more than two genera included in the Maple family. Moreover, you can find more than a hundred of species of shrubs and trees that belong to the same family. One of the common features or characteristics that you can observe from the Aceraceae is that the arrangement of their leaves is opposite wherein the two leaves are just opposite from one another, growing in the same node. Other than that, the Aceraceae also bears fruits that are schizocarp.
On the other hand, there is also a class called the Super Selection. This is a class that is popularly known as the Superior Trees. The superior trees can be seen in all types of species of trees. It is just like any other trees in their family except that the superior trees have more notable features such as bigger trunks, greener leaves, the color is more vivid, and so much more. Take the pine trees for example. During Christmas, it is the superior pine trees that are always noticed and picked by those who would like to have their own Christmas trees at home. This is because it looks better and stands sturdier.
And who says that the term hybrid is just for cars? There are also hybrid trees and this is considered as one of the classes of trees that you can find today. A hybrid tree is a product of two different species which is usually a product of science. It is very rare that the two diverse trees would create a hybrid tree although such event is still possible.
You can also find cloned trees as well. These are the trees that came from a single parent through the use of various techniques such as budding and grafting. As a result, the new trees created from these techniques look exactly the same as their parent tree that is why they are called the clones.
Other classes of the trees also include the cultivar, the genus, the species, and the variety.

The Chines Jujube Tree throughout History
The Chines Jujube Tree throughout History
Chinese poets spoke about the wonderful jujube in 600 BC. The fruit of the jujube has been used in ancient Chinese medicine for many nutritional remedies for 2500 years. Jujubes were used by Gerard in Europe as a medicinal herb in the 1600′s to treat ailments of the kidneys, lungs, and liver.
The Chinese jujube was brought to America by Oriental immigrants who built railroads in Arizona in the early 1900′s. Hundreds of grafted jujube cultivars are available in China, and a large number of these trees were imported by the USDA in 1908 and planted at the Experiment Station at Tifton, Georgia, for testing, according to Otis Woodard.
Lowell F. Locke of the USDA in 1924 introduced the improved jujube (Chinese Date) to the western U.S., where it was described as “They have a delicious fruit with a smooth brown skin and ivory fruit. You eat them skin and all. It was not firm as a peach, more like an apple. I made jams and jellies from them and also candied them.” Locke described the jujube as being cold hardy, late flowering, and virtually frost proof. The trees are well adapted to dry and sandy soils and will grow easily without requiring any special attention.
The Chinese jujube is native to China, Japan, and much of Southeast Asia. The deciduous tree grows to 25 feet tall, loaded with sharp spines, until it ages and the spines fall off as the bark is formed. The yellow fragrant flowers are small and they mature into reddish brown oval fruits a little larger than an olive. New cultivars of improved jujubes can grow as large as a plum and can be as a round or oval shaped, ripening to a reddish-brown color. The jujube fruit can be eaten fresh off the tree, even when there is much green color on the fruit with faint reddish marks just developing. In dry locations the fruit will ripen and dry up on the tree, but in the Southeastern United States, where the humidity is high, the fruit must be harvested when the color change happens and dried in a cool room.
Some gardeners describe jujube as tasting like dates flavored with apples and chocolate. The pulp of the jujube fruit is centered around a core that contains two seeds. The pulp is sweet, soft, and yellow in color, with some cultivars being white when ripe.
After being cured-out and dried, the jujube shrivels up into a wrinkled delicacy. The fruit is commonly treated similar to raisin production to preserve for consumption at a later time.
The jujube tree is prized for it’s delicious tasting fruit, the bright-green waxy leaves, and the fascinating silhouette of the tree. The leaves turn bright yellow before they shed after fall frosts.
Jujube trees thrive in sandy, poor grade soils such as those found in the Southeast, and the trees easily flourish in dry conditions; however, a little well-placed fertilizer produces amazing results in a short time. There are many species of jujube that have found use all over the world, including the continents of Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Arab nutritionists use the leaves of the jujube tree to kill worms and other parasites that attack the intestinal tract and cause diarrhea. A jujube tree that is native to Spain, France, Italy, Syria, and Asia Minor is similar to the Asian jujube and has been used medicinally as a food item in Europe, Asia Minor, and Africa. Jujubes were grown in Algeria and eaten mostly by Algerian Jews in the third century to celebrate New Years Eve.
The Chinese believed that eating the fruit from the jujube tree would improve a person’s stamina and strength, as well as an improvement in the function of the liver and the immune system. They believed that consumption of the jujube would mildly tranquilize a person, act to fight allergies, and cause a person to gain weight.
Nutritionists have found that the fruit of the jujube tree contains beneficial concentrations of Vitamins A, B2, and C. The jujube also contains minerals necessary for health, such as phosphorus, calcium, and iron.
In China the fruit is marketed mainly like dried dates and can be found at any food store. The fruit is prized as a health food as well as a tasty treat. Can a market for jujubes be developed for this easy to grow delicacy? Very few fruit trees can be grown that have as many desirable qualities, such as no natural pests, good taste, heavy production, unfailing yearly crops, no fertilizer requires, thrives in poor soil, 4000 years of growing history in China, and no climatic limitations.
